Morning Calm: week five

The soloist for week five of Morning Calm (3rd - 7th June) is the American Taiwanese pianist Alicia Juan.She will be playing music by Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninov, Mozart and Schumann.

At the age of six, Alicia started taking piano lessons and was admitted into the music school for gifted youth at Fuxing Elementary School in Taipei. From 2004 to 2011, she won many awards in Taiwan as well as “The Youngest Pianist” award of an International Piano Competition in Czech Republic at the age of seven and eight. In 2009, she was admitted into Renai Middle School for young musicians. In Grade 9, Alicia moved to the United States and continued her studies at Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, Massachusetts, and was also enrolled in New England Conservatory Preparatory School. In 2014, Alicia won the first prize of A. Ramon Piano Competition in Massachusetts. In 2015, Alicia started her studies at the Royal College of Music in London. In 2018, Alicia won the second prize of the North International Music Competition, and in the same year Alicia was accepted for her postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music with full scholarship.
